Election Results: How True?

I got an email from our high school batch announcing the result of the recently-held May 10, 2010 elections in Surigao City.  I could not verify as of this moment if this is accurate considering that the COMELEC website, thru the technology of Smartmatic Corporation, only provides the tabulated data by clustered precincts.  As much as I would like to tabulate it myself and come up with my own result, I don't have the luxury of time.  Hence, for now I am relying on this unverified data:

It's Indeed Sure na Sure to Surigao!

Here's an excuse for Surigaonons to celebrate about:  Cebu Pacific will be offering a direct flight to Surigao from Manila starting June 17 of this year.  Not only that, the budget airline is having a seat sale of P999 all-in! for direct flights to Surigao!  Isn't it great?!

DID YOU KNOW THAT the number of households per 100 occupied housing units was 101?

In 2007, the number of occupied housing units increased by 17.9 percent, from 70,872 occupied housing units in 2000 to 83,528 in 2007. The number of households per 100 occupied housing units was 101 in 2007, down from 102 households per 100 occupied housing units in 2000. Further, there were 4.9 persons per occupied housing unit reported in 2007, lower than the 5.3 persons per occupied housing unit in 2000.

Strong materials for roofs for more than half of the occupied housing units

More than half (50.7 percent) of the 83,528 occupied housing units in Surigao del Norte had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum, while 39.0 percent had roofs made of cogon/nipa/anahaw. As to the construction materials of the outer walls of the occupied housing units, 43.2 percent were made of wood, while 24.7 percent were made of concrete/brick/stone.  (Source:  NSO)

DID YOU KNOW THAT More females had attained higher levels of education?

Of the household population five years old and over, 41.6 percent had attended or finished elementary education, 31.3 percent had reached or completed high school, 7.5 percent were college undergraduates, and 7.8 percent were academic degree holders.

There were more females than males among those who had attained higher levels of education. Females comprised 57.8 percent of those with academic degrees and 60.1 percent of those with post baccalaureate courses.

Moreover, school attendance at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008 among the household population 5 to 24 years old was 68.7 percent. Of the total males aged 5 to 24 years, 67.8 percent had attended school at anytime during the said school year. Attendance for females, meanwhile, was 69.8 percent of the total females aged 5 to 24 years. (Source:  NSO)

DID YOU KNOW that there are more never-married males than females?


Attention:  Never-married females!

In 2007, about 46.8 percent of the household population 10 years old and over were married, while never-married persons shared 44.6 percent. The rest (8.6 percent) were either widowed, divorced/separated, in common law/live-in marital arrangement, or had unknown marital status. Moreover, there were more females than males in all categories for marital status, except for those never married.  (Source:  NSO)

DID YOU KNOW THAT the overall dependency ratio dropped to 76 dependents per 100 working-age population?

The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 56.8 percent, young dependents (0 to14 years) comprised 38.3 percent, while old dependents (65 years and over) accounted for 4.9 percent.

The overall dependency ratio in 2007 was 76, which means that for every 100 persons in the working age group, there were about 76 dependents (67 young dependents and 9 old dependents). In 2000, there were about 78 dependents (70 young dependents and 8 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working age group.  (Source:  NSO)

Well, the slight drop does not  hide the fact that there is still a significant number of dependents in the province.  :(

DID YOU KNOW THAT the number of persons in the voting age group increased by 11.0 percent?

In 2007, household population in the voting age group (18 years and over) totalled 223,236 persons. Of this figure, 112,615 were males while 110,621 were females. In comparison, the voting age group in 2007 was higher by 11.0 percent than the voting age group (201,102 persons) in 2000.
